The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS) has established itself as a provider of services under the Government's Shared and Common Services Programme. We are currently providing Payroll and Payroll Administration services to our department and client agencies and our service offer will expand to Financial services in the new financial year.

The DIIS Shared Services branch undertakes a range of functions including:

Service Delivery

  • Payroll and Payroll Administration services (using Aurion)
  • Financial services (using TechOne)
  • Contact centre services (using LanDesk)

Service Engagement

  • Client engagement
  • Communications

Service Management

  • Governance
  • Secretariat
  • Reporting
  • Contract management
  • Finance and resource management

What we're looking for

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill upcoming vacancies across the Shared Services Branch. We are looking to establish a merit pool to fill immediate and future vacancies.

Specific vacancies currently available include Payroll and Senior Payroll Officers. Details of these roles are as follows:

APS Level 5 – Senior Payroll Officers

Senior Payroll Officers are highly experienced in administration of APS payroll and providing advice to customers on payroll related matters. They have an important role in identifying, adapting and applying effective and efficient processes, and conducting on the job training of less experienced team members.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • a strong ability and willingness to adapt to change
  • a track record of delivering against set timeframes
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • good knowledge of APS legislation and other authoritative sources and how they apply in the context of payroll.

APS Level 4 – Payroll Officers

Payroll Officers provide advice on payroll related matters and undertake processing across all the elements of APS payroll. Payroll Officers have an important role in supporting team members and assisting to identify opportunities for changes to business processes which will achieve efficiencies.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • a strong ability and willingness to adapt to change
  • a track record of delivering against set timeframes
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • some knowledge of APS legislation and other authoritative sources and how they apply in the context of payroll.

The impact you'll have

The Payroll and Aurion Support Section administers and provides support and advice on Shared Services Tranche 1 Payroll and Payroll Administration services. This includes a broad range of services to employees and managers of DIIS and client agencies, for example:

  • interpretation of legislation and other relevant documents to provide advice to customers
  • payroll processing, including allowances, penalties, superannuation, taxation, workers compensation, commencements and separations
  • leave policy interpretation, advice and processing
  • leave liability processing
  • management and resolution of overpayments
  • records management
  • assisting with scheduled salary advancement processes
  • payroll reporting
  • payrun activities including payroll reconciliation
  • Aurion system configuration and automation of business processes.

Eligibility

Desirable skills include:

  • experience in using Aurion HRMIS
  • tertiary qualifications relevant to payroll
  • experience in a shared services environment.
