About the team

The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science – through its business service delivery arm AusIndustry Business Services – provides a range of services and advice to help businesses start, run, innovate and grow. These services support businesses of all sizes and sectors of the economy.

The Business Development Manager reports to the State Manager and is responsible for ministerial engagement and developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships. The Assistant Business Development Manager reports to the Business Development Manager and assists and supports the manager with ministerial and stakeholder engagement.

This recruitment process is being used to fill the Business Development Manager role. A merit pool may be established to fill similar roles if they arise, including the Assistant Business Development Manager role.

Both roles are based in Brisbane.

Our ideal candidates

The successful candidates will demonstrate skills and experience:

  • preparing and managing ministerial correspondence
  • developing networks and fostering effective working relationships with key stakeholders including senior representatives of industry, businesses, community organisations and state government
  • capturing and analysing business and economic intelligence relative to the state and to the department's interests in the state
  • marketing the government’s programs and services and with an ability to be seen as a credible representative of government for information and referrals
  • developing and organising events of varying sizes, including sponsorship management
  • engaging with and presenting to business. 

What you will do

Business Manager key duties include:

  • leading and coordinating state office responses to ministerial requests including liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • developing and maintaining effective linkages with stakeholders from the private and public sectors
  • maintaining a detailed knowledge of  industry and business profiles, as well as detailed knowledge of issues impacting industry and business within the state
  • representing the policy and program interests of the Australian Government and the department in the state
  • undertaking public presentations, formal representations and providing assistance to the Minister and departments Executive when in the state
  • managing marketing and event activities within the state office boundaries, including sponsorship development, management and implementation

The Business Manager will:

  • maintain relationships with relevant businesses, industry and business association representative bodies and state government agencies
  • raise awareness and facilitating access for businesses to government programs and services; promoting the department's interests and profile in the state
  • coordinate the internal requirements for industry information and intelligence and management of identified marketing activities for the department.

The Assistant Business Manager will support and assist the Business Development Manager in their role as outlined above. Key duties include:

  • developing and maintaining effective linkages with stakeholders from the private and public sectors
  • maintaining  knowledge of  industry and business profiles, as well as knowledge of issues impacting industry and business within the state
  • representing the policy and program interests of the Australian Government and the department in the state
  • with guidance from the Business Development Manager, undertake public presentations, formal representations and provide assistance to the Minister and departments Executive when in the state
  • with assistance from the Business Development Manager, manage marketing and event activities within the state office boundaries, including sponsorship development, management and implementation
  • with assistance from the Business Development Manager coordinate the state office responses to ministerial requests including liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Eligibility

A current driver’s licence is a mandatory requirement, and a preparedness to undertake regular vehicular travel.

A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience stakeholder engagement, business development and marketing activities is desirable but not mandatory.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

These  positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This recruitment process is being used to fill a current ongoing Executive Level 1 position. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing Executive Level 1 and APS Level 6 vacancies should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.
