About the team

The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS) has established itself as a provider of services under the Government’s Shared Services Programme. The Payroll & Aurion Support Team currently provides Payroll & Aurion System Administration services to our department and client agencies.

The Aurion System Developer role sits within the Aurion Development Team, who is responsible for developing and implementing process efficiencies and ensuring the integrity of the Aurion system. 

Our ideal candidate

Our Aurion System Developers play an integral role in providing high quality services to our departmental employees and client agencies. To be successful in this role you will have:

  • a good working knowledge of the Aurion HRIMS system
  • excellent communication and customer service skills
  • ability to problem solve and troubleshoot issues
  • ability to create Aurion Query Tool reports
  • demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage a high workload
  • a strong ability and willingness to adapt to change
  • a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process efficiencies 
  • exposure or willingness to learn Aurion Business Process Automation.

These roles will be filled at either APS Level 5 or APS Level 6 in line with the skill set of the successful candidates.

What you will do

System Developers are responsible for developing and implementing system automations to improve our efficiency as a Shared Services provider, and to standardise our processes across multiple agencies.

You will be involved in tasks such as streamlining processes, on-boarding new clients, and identifying opportunities for improvements to business processes to achieve efficiencies.

Duties include:

  • scoping, building, testing and implementing new forms and processes
  • maintaining system integrity and audit controls
  • documenting new processes
  • ensuring that work is completed in line with legislation, policies, and established change management protocols
  • analysing client databases to identify standardisation opportunities.


Experience in administration of the Aurion system is required.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.


These roles can be based in any state in Australia.

This recruitment process is being used to fill several current ongoing APS Level 5 and APS Level 6 positions. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing APS Level 5 and APS Level 6 vacancies should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
