About the team
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team at the Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 level. The General Manager of the Advanced Technologies Branch will report directly to the Head of the Industry Growth Division.
The Industry Growth Division is positioned at the forefront of the technology and digital transformation occurring across Australian industry. The Division advises on policies to grow industry sectors, smooth industry transition, and to take advantage of future industry opportunities around disruptive technologies.
In the General Manager role of the Advanced Technologies Branch, you will provide senior leadership to a branch of the division and be a key member of the division’s executive team. You will contribute to the strategic direction of the department, delivering reform and driving change. The role requires a highly skilled, innovative, results orientated person with the motivation to make a difference.
Our ideal candidate
The successful applicant will be highly motivated with exceptional management and leadership skills. You will work collaboratively with senior staff in the department, its Executive, the Minister, and other key stakeholders across the Commonwealth, state and territory governments, and in the private sector.
As General Manager, you will be part of the department's senior leadership team and will contribute to corporate management, and interdepartmental and external liaison and negotiations. You will be expected to model and promote the principles and activities of an inclusive workplace.
What you will do
As the leader of the Advanced Technologies Branch you will be responsible for policy:
- on the application of technologies such as Industry 4.0, robotics and automation to the industrial sector in Australia
- on Advanced Manufacturing, Mining Equipment Technology and Services, and Medical and Biotechnology, including oversight for four of the six Industry Growth Centres (AMGC, METSIgnited, NERA and MTPConnect) and
- discharging the duties of the Australian Industry Participation Authority for both major projects under the Australian Jobs Act (2013), and in relation to Australian industry participation in Australian Government procurements, grants and loans.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or a minimum of 5 years' experience in a senior leadership role.
These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
The Department will also use this recruitment process to develop a merit list which it may draw upon for future Senior Executive Service (SES) Band 1 level positions.
