About the Division
The Resources Division is the trusted adviser to the Australian Government on regulation, development, promotion and stewardship of Australia’s resources sector, to maximise its future potential.
The division provides policy advice and administers activities in relation to the exploration, extraction and processing of oil, gas and minerals. They also assist the government to develop Australia’s petroleum and minerals resources and foster best practice regulatory reform.

What you will do
We are looking for high performing Policy Officers to join several teams across the division. The positions are located within our three policy branches - Onshore Minerals and Energy; Resources Strategy and Offshore Resources.
The roles require strong policy thinking, writing, organisational and stakeholder engagement skills to advance the development of Australia’s mining and resources sector, including by:
- framing and drafting policy and regulatory advice
- identifying and connecting emerging trends and issues and conducting background research
- developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships with industry, regulatory agencies and across government
- preparing and delivering briefing material, including Ministerial and SES meeting briefs.
Our staff work collaboratively across the division, the wider department, and with key stakeholders, to develop strategies and prosecute opportunities that support Australia’s largest export industry. You will have significant ongoing interaction with Australia's major trading partners, industry, government stakeholders, traditional owners, and the science and research community.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
These positions may require intermittent travel within Australia.
This opportunity is open for staff who are seeking promotion and/or to transfer at level. Consideration will also be given to higher duties arrangements for high performing staff.
