About the team
The Office of Northern Australia (ONA) oversees implementation of the Australian Government’s northern Australia agenda, working collaboratively with the governments of Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. We lead the development of a refreshed agenda for Northern Australia, encompassing industry, infrastructure, skills, Indigenous economic development and investment. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the northern Australia agenda.

Our ideal candidate
You will work as the Executive Assistant on an ongoing basis to the General Manager, Office of Northern Australia (ONA).
You are a high performing, motivated individual responsible for providing high level executive and administrative support to a Senior Executive Service officer and the ONA team more broadly, who demonstrates excellent organisation and office management skills.
You are self-driven and able to manage competing priorities in a professional manner. You are an effective communicator with the ability to coordinate duties across a geographically dispersed office network.
The position will be based in Darwin and will need to operate under limited direction.
Experience in Executive Assistant roles in government is considered desirable.
Previous experience in government applications such as Expense8 and PDMS would be considered an advantage, but not essential.
What you will do
The position will provide a range of executive, administrative and support services, including meeting coordination, records management and financial management. This includes:
- Manage executive diaries, including arranging meetings, meeting papers, minute taking and travel requests.
- Maintain records for storage of correspondence, emails and client relationships.
- Support the preparation of briefs, reports and papers using a range of software applications.
- Complete routine financial transactions, purchasing services and reconciliation, ensuring compliance with Departmental standards and procedures.
- Build and sustain relationships in order to work collaboratively within the Division and across governments.
- Provide a point of contact for assistance and general enquiries including greeting visitors and receiving and responding to phone calls, emails and general correspondence.
- Other duties as required.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
This recruitment process is being used to fill an ongoing APS Level 4 vacancy. A merit pool may be established to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing APS Level 4 vacancies should they become available within 12 months from the date advertised.
