About the branch
The Communications Branch sits within the Corporate Group and plays a key role in how the department tells its story and in supporting the department’s policy objectives. The branch manages a number of communications channels and offers advice on all aspects of communications. It plays a key role in supporting Ministers and the department’s Executive.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic branch with a strong focus on strategic priorities. We work closely and early with our policy and program colleagues. We are building strong communications capability across the department, including in writing and story-telling, leading a content-focused, digital first approach to developing impactful communications.
About the team
The role is within the Science communications and case studies team. This section works with the Science and Commercialisation Policy (SCP) Division, the National Measurement Institute and Questacon. They are also responsible for delivering the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science and manage the department’s case studies database.
The role would be primarily focused on providing strategic communications advice and support to the SCP Division. This would include developing communication strategies, preparing content, coordinating ministerial announcements, supporting consultations, assisting in media and social media activities, evaluating communication activities, and managing market research.

• is passionate about communications, with experience/knowledge of best practice for content development and channel management.
What you will do
• As a Communications Officer (APS6) you will provide strategic communications support and advice to the department and ministerial offices.
• You will work with others in the branch and across the department to develop content and share it across the department’s channels.
Tertiary qualifications in Communications (or a related field) or relevant work experience is highly desirable.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
