The Climate Change Division provides policy, program and technical support to the Australian Government on climate change.
The Division is seeking a high performing geospatial analyst with strong spatial data skills for the National Inventory Systems and International Reporting Branch.

The National Inventory Systems and International Reporting branch produces Australia’s National Greenhouse Accounts and Emissions Projections.
Australia’s National Greenhouse Accounts are recognised as world-leading in many aspects, including the use of remote sensing techniques to support spatial modelling of carbon stock changes on the land.
The geospatial analyst, APS Level 6, within the Modelling, Agriculture and Geospatial Unit will produce a range of spatial products including for the Department’s critical remote sensing program used to estimate changes in carbon stocks across the Australian landscape.
We work with science researchers, industry and governments to maintain and improve the accuracy of our data. Projects may include development of science-based methods and models for quantifying carbon fluxes and greenhouse gas emissions and removals on the land, or across the country.

- a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or commensurate qualifications and experience.
What you will do
As a Geospatial Analyst, you will:
- process and analyse spatial datasets to support spatial land use change modelling\reporting activities
- contribute to the production of Department’s National Greenhouse Accounts or emission projections
- contribute to the development of spatial modelling techniques for carbon accounting
- develop strong and effective relationships with stakeholders, and
- support the team in departmental and whole-of-government briefings.
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
This position requires a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Roles are based in Canberra but consideration may be given to working from one of our state based offices (or other arrangements) depending on operational requirements. Relocation assistance may be provided to the successful applicant.
This process is being used to fill an immediate APS Level 6 vacancy within the Branch. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies for 12 months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Gazette.
