About the Australian Building Codes Board

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is a standards writing body responsible for:

  • developing and maintaining the National Construction Code (NCC), and
  • administering the WaterMark and CodeMark Certification Schemes.

The ABCB promotes efficiency in the design, construction and performance of buildings and plumbing systems. We do this through the NCC and the development of effective regulatory and non-regulatory approaches, in collaboration with governments and industry.

The ABCB Office is a subsidiary agency of the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources. The ABCB Office is a professional, technical and administrative team that provides support to the Board and its ongoing work program.

About the team

The Digital Engagement Team is a multidisciplinary team delivering stakeholder management, consultation and communication and advertising activities. We strive for continuous improvement, and are passionate about the work we do.

Our ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter. They have a high level of attention to detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They will:

  • be an experienced government digital communications specialist
  • have experience providing advice and guidance to stakeholders that contribute to/enhance business and project outcomes
  • have strong judgement ability, and can effectively set priorities, with limited supervisions
  • have demonstrated experience contributing to strategic communications planning activities. This includes application of the government Advertising Policy
  • have experience developing and implementing campaigns, including coordinating procurement processes and suppliers
  • have an understanding of WCAG2.2 guidelines, and/or experience working with digital delivery platforms, and
  • have experience, or a willingness to undertake, data analysis to help the improvement of business activities.

12 months’ experience and/or tertiary qualifications in communications (or similar) is desirable.

What you will do

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of stakeholder engagement, advertising and communication activities. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • managing and administering digital communication activities and requirements
  • development of strategies and campaigns
  • coordinating, developing, or designing creative materials and videos
  • engaging with project managers and agencies to encourage development of key messages and external communication content
  • undertaking effective evaluation and reporting of communication activities against business objectives for initiatives and projects
  • providing financial administration and purchasing support in line with finance and procurement policies, and
  • promoting workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace and act under APS Values.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

This process is being used to fill immediate vacancies within the Branch. A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies for 12 months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Gazette.  Non-ongoing vacancies will be offered for an initial period of up to 18 months, with possibility of extension.

While roles are based in Canberra, we are open to consider candidates from other states and territories.  Remote work arrangements will be assessed on a case by case basis.
