The International and Government Engagement team is responsible for the Agency’s outward facing engagement activities with international space agencies, companies and Commonwealth and State and Territory government departments.

We are looking for dynamic business and engagement professionals to fill several roles within the International and Government Engagement team:

  • Assistant Manager, Engagement – Executive Level 1
  • Senior Engagement/Engagement Officer – APS Level 5 or 6.

Our ideal candidate

Assistant Manager, Engagement (EL1)

Our successful candidate will have the following knowledge, experience and attributes:

  • excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including solid experience in successfully managing competing interests amongst stakeholder groups
  • demonstrated experience in providing clear guidance in complex business, State and Territory government or technical environments whilst maintaining appropriate transparency
  • demonstrated ability to obtain agreement and acceptable outcomes for all stakeholders
  • demonstrated ability to manage situations where agreement cannot be sought
  • excellent communication skills with a proven ability to generate high-quality written materials and persuasive verbal arguments
  • demonstrated ability to achieve results, swiftly, in a complex environment
  • demonstrated ability to manage through ambiguous and uncertain environments
  • demonstrated ability to work with peers, with overlapping responsibilities, in a positive and productive manner
  • resilience, strategy, curiosity and empathy.

As Assistant Manager supporting the Executive Director, International and Government Engagement, you will be a proactive leader with demonstrated ability to:

  • establish the foundations of a high performing team
  • foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, integrity and respect
  • appropriately engage with risk and leading others through uncertainty
  • work closely with Agency peers to resolve areas of potential conflict, recognising accountability for decisions under the space legislation lies with others.

Senior Engagement/Engagement Officer (APS5 or APS6)

Our successful candidate will have the following knowledge, experience and attributes:

  • demonstrated stakeholder engagement experience, including experience in successfully managing competing interests amongst stakeholder groups
  • excellent communication skills with a proven ability to generate high-quality written materials and persuasive verbal arguments
  • ministerial and executive briefing capability
  • demonstrated experience in providing clear guidance in complex business or technical environments whilst maintaining appropriate transparency
  • demonstrated ability to achieve results, swiftly, in a complex environment
  • demonstrated ability to manage through ambiguous and uncertain environments
  • demonstrated ability to work with peers, with overlapping responsibilities, in a positive and productive manner
  • logistics and project management expertise
  • administration skills
  • resilience, strategy implementation, curiosity and empathy.

In addition, for both the EL1 and APS5/6 positions the following is desirable:

  • experience or qualifications in business development, international relations, government affairs, communication or similar
  • knowledge of and/or previous experience working in the space sector.

What you will do 

You will be an active member of a small team that will:

  • Negotiate and manage relationships and initiatives with:
    • international space agencies
    • the Australian space industry
    • State and Territory governments
  • Engage with stakeholders (national and international)
  • Support the delivery of Agency program and projects
  • Work within legislative, financial and administrative frameworks to manage contracts and procurements
  • Provide advice on policies and programs to support the growth of the space industry
  • Develop high quality briefs and other documents
  • Maintain a high level understanding of the space sector.

In addition to the above responsibilities, The Executive level 1 will also:

  • effectively lead and manage staff reporting to them, including supporting the well-being of team members and setting clear goals and deliverables
  • empower their teams to deliver
  • champion collaboration across the Agency, government and the broad space ecosystem.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role applicants must be Australian Citizens.

Security Clearance

The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.

Notes

The Agency Headquarters is based in Adelaide. 

These roles can be undertaken in any location the department has representation.  We are open to consider remote work opportunities and candidates from other states and territories are encouraged to apply.  Flexible work arrangements will be assessed in line with business and operational requirements and, on a case by case basis.  A package to support relocation or consideration for this position to be filled in other locations in Australia may be negotiated. 

This role will likely require travel both domestically and internationally.
