About the team

The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) is a joint initiative between the Commonwealth, State and Territory governments. It is a standards writing body that is responsible for the development of the NCC, and administration of the WaterMark and CodeMark Product Certification Schemes.

Technical knowledge of NCC referenced documents, though useful, is not essential to be successful in the role.

What you will do

The primary purpose of this position is to manage stakeholder engagement with external organisations that develop documents referenced by the NCC, especially Standards Australia, and to coordinate standards development.

This is achieved through:

  • developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders
  • assisting stakeholders in understanding and applying the Protocol for the Development of NCC Referenced Documents
  • participating in referenced document development committees
  • with the assistance of the impact analysis team, ensuring referenced document proposals are subject to sound impact analysis
  • overseeing administration of referenced document management systems
  • managing and aligning the standards participation work of ABCB Office staff
  • ensuring the standards development process is efficient and effective and meets the ABCB’s objectives.

As an Executive Level 1, you’ll be expected to:

  • engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation
  • establish and maintain internal and external networks
  • manage stakeholders through change, resolving conflict and managing sensitivities
  • exercise autonomy and initiative in team and process management, allocating and managing resources to meet objectives.

The position has one direct report.


To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.


Canberra is the preferred location for this position. Other locations may be considered where co-location with a DISR office and other ABCB staff is possible.
